About Me

Sharing our renovation projects, faith, life, ups, downs and anything else we feel like talking about.
What? Did you expect to find something interesting?
Hobbies/Activities:
I volunteer at my church, interpreting for the deaf ministry. I am a self proclaimed preservationist (or that is how the local newspaper described me recently — I prefer that over potstirring
). I like all things old, scrapbooking, church and am a mother to a beautiful little girl and a wife to a handsome man.
I am really no one special and have been pretty much a straight laced, goody two shoes all my life. I have always rooted for the underdog and tend to think outside the box.
Why I blog:
I have family and several friends who are scattered all over the U.S., as well as other countries. This blog is mostly for them. It is easier to keep up with each other through the worldwide web. I can give them a peek into my life and they feel like they are still a part of it…..even though they are so far away. Sigh… So, that being said, I really don’t care if you like my blog or not. If you don’t know me, then why in the world do you care if my blog is good or not? I have a simple solution for ya, hit the red X in the top right corner. Buh-bye! Don’t be a hater. Move on and keep your ugly comments to yourself. If a comment contains vulgarity, profanity or indecency, I will immediately delete it so, don’t waste your time. I do however approve good, thoughtful, nice and kind comments.
I do not consider this blog a journalistic blog with cutting edge news. Definition of a Weblog, or a Blog:
A blog (a contraction of the term weblog) is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
“Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.”
In case you are wondering, my blog is the personal online diary type.
“Does thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.” ~~ Benjamin Franklin

Hi Andrea!
I was informed of your blog in a meeting I had at work yesterday….I was instantly intrigued when the woman I was meeting with told me about you and your family and the amazing things you are doing for the Bolton neighborhood, among other preservation projects.
After reading several blog entries now (i should probably get back to work! lol), I wanted to drop by and give my great appreciation and admiration for your courage to tackle and renovate the “Old Smith House” and several around you in the first efforts to revitalize the neighborhood…it is truly the kind of grassroots effort that Alexandria needs to get out of this rut!
Aside from my interests in community development/revitalization/preservation….i’ve always been a junkie for a down and dirty overhaul project, and in the recent months gotten really into antique furniture. I would LOVE to move into homes, but don’t really have the skills…so I am absolutely loving your before and afters and all the stories that go along with it! It makes me want to participate!
Keep it up…I have now bookmarked your blog along with the others i read every morning and look forward to following yours!!

Hi Andrea, I just wanted to stop by! I love your blog! thanks for the nice comment on mine! I hope you have been having fun with the charms. I did take them down from my Etsy shop (for now). My shop is “under construction” LOL If you would like more info or need some custom made, shoot me an email and I can get some together for you! They are so much fun to add on just about anything from ATC’s to scrapbooks, hair clips, dresses you name it!
Your family is so beautiful! God Bless You All – Sonia

Hi Andrea,
I have enjoyed reading your blog. While perusing the Internet, I think I found a drawing of your home. It is listed as the Sally Ringold House. The picture is on Flickr. The website is:

Hope you enjoy this.
